To help us out with our project you do not need to be a professional scientist or avid birder. We welcome input from citizens of all ages and knowledge levels. The more data the merrier! Simply follow the guidelines below and then contribute away
We have but a few simple guidelines to our Red Crossbill project:
1. Have your eyes peeled!
The Red Crossbill is an endangered species and is therefore difficult to spot. On your next stroll through the woods remember our project and be on the lookout for those elusive Red Crossbills. We also recommend installing a bird feeder in your backyard and to check its' visitors frequently.
2. Data we are looking for
We are interested primarily in recording the location of sightings. However, we are also interested in squirrel densities of the area, so if you spot a Red Crossbill be on the lookout for squirrels as well. Head on over to the observations to submit your information.
3. Review our field guide
In order to ensure the data you are submitting is the most accurate, review our field guide. Our guide will help you identify field marks of male, female and juvenile Red Crossbills as well as Red Squirrels. You can review our field guide online or download the PDF version to have with you on your next hike.
4. Take photos if possible
Capture the beauty of this endangered species and share with others!
